Preschool in Kista

SIF in Kista

A Place for Linguistic & Cultural Learning

At the Swedish International Preschool in Kista, we offer a safe and nurturing environment where your child’s education and development take center stage. Our preschool combines the best of both worlds – a deep-rooted love of learning and strong cultural awareness. Here children meet Swedish every day as the base, English as a natural addition – and their own mother tongue as something they may bring with them into their learning.

Centrally Located in Kista

Our preschool is conveniently located just a short walk from Kista subway station and only two minutes from Kista Galleria, making drop-offs and pick-ups easy for parents. The newly renovated facilities are designed to be both welcoming and safe, ensuring a secure environment for your child.

Language Development & Cultural Diversity

Swedish is the base. The lead teacher in each group is always Swedish-speaking, and every group also has an English-speaking educator. Children meet both languages in everyday life and are given the conditions to develop them – at their own pace. Our approach embraces cultural and linguistic diversity through intentional learning and play, giving children a unique opportunity to explore the richness of the world’s cultures from an early age. The presence of the mother tongue matters here. During settling-in we find out which languages live in your home. Not as a formality – we use them in our teaching. Our library is in several languages, and our staff speak them. A child who meets their own language in a book carries that into Swedish.

Nutritious & Sugar-Free Meals

Health and well-being are top priorities at SIF Preschool. We serve balanced and nutritious meals under a strict sugar-free policy to promote healthy eating habits from the very start. A large portion of our food is also organic.

How we work

A few choices we have made, and stand by.

An English-speaking educator in every group
Swedish is the base — the lead teacher is always Swedish-speaking. English is simply there, every day, in everyday life.
A library in several languages — and staff who speak them
During settling-in we map which languages live in your home, and we use them in our teaching.
A small preschool
40 places in Kista. Everyone knows everyone — the children, the educators and you.
Sugar-free, largely organic food
A strict no-sugar policy, and much of what we serve is organic.

What everyday life looks like

This is what you can count on, every day.

We read aloud every day
Books are within reach, not put away. We read together and talk about what we read — the pictures, the words, what happens next.
Our learning tools are analogue
The children do not sit in front of screens. With the older children they are used in specific projects, such as exploring science and technology.
Outdoors is a classroom
Not a break between activities — part of the teaching, with varied physical activity recurring through the day.
We teach in smaller groups
We divide the group. In a smaller group the educator has time to see what your child is actually trying to do.
The child sets the pace
Reading and writing when the child is ready — guided by interest and need.
A day with a rhythm
Play, teaching, meals, rest and movement — a balance across the day, not a schedule to be endured.

Questions parents usually ask

How does the language mix actually work?

Swedish is the base. The lead teacher in each group is always Swedish-speaking, and every group also has an English-speaking educator. Your child’s mother tongue is used too. The children meet the languages in everyday life — not as a scheduled subject.

What do you do with our mother tongue?

During settling-in we map which languages are spoken at home. We then use them in our teaching, in books and in conversation. A child who meets their own language in a book carries that into Swedish.

How large are the groups?

We divide the group and teach in smaller groups. Children are grouped by age and maturity — and by how the group works together.

How much screen time is there?

The children do not sit in front of screens. With the older children they are used in specific projects — for example when we explore science and technology. Otherwise the tools are analogue.

What about learning to read and write?

We start from the child’s interest and needs. We do not push — we meet the child where they are.

Are the children outdoors a lot?

Yes. We use the outdoors as another classroom, with varied physical activity recurring through the day.

What happens after the visit?

You apply through your municipality’s system. When we can offer a place, we do so through that same system — and you must actively accept it for the place to be yours.

This place has been nothing short of a second home for our children. From the very first day, our twins were welcomed with warmth and care. Every morning, they were eager to walk through the doors, excited for the day ahead.

I really do recommend this preschool. Both my children have been here — a safe environment, kind educators and the best principal.
